Leadership Is Being There When It Matters

Before Nicholas became my child’s caseworker, I felt completely overwhelmed, unheard, and alone. I was constantly fighting to make people understand the seriousness of my child’s disabilities and developmental delays. Too often, I felt like his needs were being minimized and that I was the only person in the room willing to fight for him.

Then Nicholas became part of our lives, and everything changed.

From the very beginning, Nicholas treated my son like a person whose future mattered. At every IEP meeting, he spoke up, asked the difficult questions, challenged decisions when necessary, and pushed for the services my son desperately needed. For the first time, I did not feel like I was standing alone against an entire system. I finally had someone beside me who was willing to advocate for my child with the same determination and passion that I had.

Because of Nicholas’s advocacy, my son was able to receive additional professional services through his IEP that made a real difference. We began seeing progress. He started gaining skills, understanding more, and receiving an education that actually addressed his individual needs. Nicholas did not simply help my son access services—he helped give him a stronger chance at succeeding.

What makes Nicholas different is that his dedication did not end when the meeting was over. He genuinely cared about my son and our entire family. He helped empower my child, encouraged us when we felt defeated, and reminded us that my son deserved every opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.

Nicholas also went far beyond educational advocacy. During some of the most difficult moments for our family, he helped us navigate financial hardships and connected us with resources we did not even know were available. He looked at the needs of our whole family, not just one piece of paperwork or one diagnosis. His compassion, persistence, and willingness to go above and beyond gave our family something we desperately needed: hope.

Nicholas changed the way our family experienced the system. He made sure our voices were heard. He made sure my son was seen. And most importantly, he made sure my child was never treated as though his disabilities meant he deserved anything less.

There are people who simply do their jobs, and then there are people who make a lasting difference in the lives of the families they serve. Nicholas is one of those people.

Our family is stronger because he was willing to stand beside us, fight with us, and believe in my son. I will never forget the difference he made in our lives.
